Woman Hit By Car

A woman remains in a critical condition at Royal Darwin Hospital after she was struck by a vehicle on The Stuart Highway in Stuart Park at around 10:05pm yesterday.

Northern Territory Police Watch Commander Garry Smith said it appears the woman has walked out in front of the vehicle.

“The female has walked out in front of the vehicle and was struck. She was taken to RDH in a critical condition. Major Crash Investigators were called to view and measure the scene. We did have the Stuart Highway shut down but it has reopened.”

Investigations into the crash are continuing.

 
Truck Catches Fire

Residents of Woodroofe may have noticed an unusual burning smell yesterday after a garbage truck caught fire on Sibbald Crescent.

The fire is believed to have started from the undercarriage of the truck.

Fire-fighters attended and extinguished the blaze and a detour was briefly put in place to divert traffic away from the area.

The driver is believed to have escaped unharmed from the incident.

 
Laurie Lawrence In Darwin

Former Australian Swimming Coach Laurie Lawrence will be in Darwin today as part of NT Water Safety Week.

Mr Lawrence will be holding learn to swim classes as Casuarina Pool from 11am to 1pm today and is open to the general public.

Mr Lawrence will work closely with Royal Life Saving NT and regularly visits remote Aboriginal Communities promoting water safety awareness in the Territory.

The NT currently has the highest Australian drowning rate per capita.

 
Croc Captured At Fogg Dam

Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife have removed a 3.6 metre crocodile from Fogg Dam over the weekend.

The area is a popular spot for both tourists and locals and previous crocodile sightings have been reported around the dam.

The croc capture was just 1 of 5 across the weekend, bringing the total number of crocodiles caught in 2013 to 101.

 
Witness Helps Nabs Hoon

A man has had his vehicle impounded after committing a traffic offence in The Narrows at around 6:30 yesterday evening.

Watch Commander Vicky Koumb said a witness took a photo of the man doing a burnout at in the intersection of Fleming and Wilmot Street which assisted Police in locating the offender.

“The witness took a photo of the vehicle and smoke that had come from the vehicle. Police subsequently conducted enquiries, located the vehicle in Driver and the vehicle was impounded for hooning.”

The driver was summonsed for driving unlicensed and driving without due care.
