The 2012 NT Championships have concluded after four fantastic sessions of track and field. Highlights came on the track on Saturday night, with the open men's and women's 100m finals. Indonesian visitors Satriani Lusiana and Bobi Yaspi took line honours in the blue riband events. Lusiana held off the newest member of the Darwin Athletics Club, Lisa Wolski, in a time of 12.24seconds. Wolski held on for second place in 12.68seconds. While in the under 20's division Emma-Rose Daby clocked a stunning 12.26seconds for victory and to register the fastest time by a Territorian for the championships. While Yaspi wooed the crowd of 1500 on Saturday night, when he stormed down the 100m straight and clocked 10.98seconds. It was the first time 11seconds has been broken in the Territory since the late Daniel Batman. 13 year old Lope Goidubu ran second to Yaspi, with a slick time of 11.45. While Oliver Teale from Rural Athletics Club was the first under 20, in a Territory fastest time for the year of 11.08seconds. Number two ranked Indonesian decathlete Antoni Antoni, backed up from his wins in the high jump and javelin on night one, to win the long jump with 6.40m. Sprint performances once again took centre stage on the final Sunday session, with the winners of the 100 backing up for fast times in the 200m. Lusiana took line honours in 25.38, from Emma Zalcman of Darwin Runners and Walkers in 25.91. Alice Springs athlete Courtney Geraghty took out the 16 years 200m in 25.83, which continued the good form for the Oceania Champion. The men's 200m was won by Yaspi from Indonesia with 22.46seconds, ahead of 1988 Olympian Robert Ballard who stopped the clock at 23.35, as he attempts to become a world record holder for the under 50's age group. Beginning competition on Sunday morning was the 5000m, which was taken out by last years NT Powerade City 2 Surf winner Darren Peacock, in a shade over 16minutes. While Korey Summers from the Rob de Castella Indigenous Marathon Project was second. From the weekend, School Sport NT will select a team to attend the 12 years and under national titles in Adelaide later this year. While NT Athletics will select their team for upcoming Australian titles, including the Australian All Schools, Australian Junior and Australian Open national titles. |
