Palmerston woman fights off youth intruders

A 67-year-old woman has chased off four young offenders with the handle of an axe when they tried to break into her Moulden home around 4.30 this morning.

Earlier, up to six thieves smashed their way into the Charles Darwin University gym and attempted to remove a large safe but were disturbed by an alarm and security.

The Noonamah Store and Noonamah Tavern were also targeted overnight.

Police say windows and mail boxes were smashed and mobile phones stolen.

Officers are searching for at least two youths they say were wearing gloves.
