Another tropical cyclone brewing off NT

TIWI ISLANDS AAP

Residents of the Tiwi Islands off the Northern Territory coast are on alert as the weather bureau warns another tropical cyclone could be brewing.

The weather bureau warns a tropical low may develop into another cyclone between tonight and tomorrow morning, a week after Cyclone Debbie caused deaths and destruction across Queensland and NSW.

The bureau says the centre of the tropical low isn't expected to cross the Territory coast, but there's a risk that gales on the eastern side of the system will affect the Tiwi Islands within 24 to 48 hours.
