He's the dude who ended Ed Sheeran's rein at the top of the charts. Harry Styles' first solo single 'Sign Of The Times' is now smashing the charts around the world, but is there a hidden message behind the song?
'"Just stop your crying, it's a sign of the times" Styles sings over and over again, but what does it mean? The end of a relationship? or maybe all the negativity happening in the world?
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he went into depth as to what the song means, and if you had to guess what it was about, you'd still be guessing.
"Most of the stuff that hurts me about what's going on at the moment is not politics, it's fundamentals. Equal rights. For everyone, all races, sexes, everything... 'Sign Of The Times' came from 'This isn't the first time we've been in a hard time, and it's not going to be the last'.The song is written from a point of view as if a mother was giving birth to a child and there 's a complication. Teh mother is told 'The child is fine, but you're not going to make it', 'The mother has five minutes to tell the child, go forth and conquer'."
If you're confussed, don't worry, so are we. There are still some plot points in the song that doesn't make sense. Example? "Just stop your crying" from the point of view from the mother, holding her newborn child before she dies for unknown reasons? Don't get it!
And the bridge where he sings "We don't talk enough, we shopuld open up, before it's all too much"? again, from a dying mother? Still don't understand.
Great track though, it just doesn't make any sense.
