Good news! A potential new contraceptive drug has just finished its first safety test with human volunteers and it has passed, and it comes with two key pieces of information. One, it does not (as of yet) appear to affect hormones. Two, this contraceptive pill is for men!

The new pill does not use artificial hormones and it also doesn’t affect the production of testosterone by the testes which so far indicate it may indeed be safe for humans. This is far from the first attempt to create a male contraceptive pill, but previous attempts failed to pass safety tests due to side-effects that were deemed unacceptable.

The new pill was test by a small group of healthy young men and it’s reported that it did not cause any serious side effects. The participants have only taken the pill for 15 days, which they took twice a day. Further testing will include volunteers taking it for a longer period of time and the effects on the body in that period as well as the effects on the body when they stop taking the pill.
