Man allegedly attempts to steal car with child inside, Palmerston

A 40-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle from Palmerston while a four-year-old child was in the back seat.

Police say the man entered the yard of a Woodfroffe residence around 7am yesterday (January 12), where he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The alleged offender reversed out of the driveway and stalled the vehicle, the child’s father was able to enter it and apprehend the offender before contacting police.

The alleged offender was also arrested over multiple thefts from a Palmerston supermarket earlier that morning.
