Prepare to have your high school nightmares revived. Prime Video has just released the official trailer for its highly anticipated reimagining of Stephen King’s Carrie, and it looks like a thoroughly modern twist on the classic horror story.

Helmed by horror heavyweight Mike Flanagan, the mind behind The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, this new eight-episode Original series promises to explore the heartbreaking origins of Carrie White like never before.

After a massive search involving nearly 1,500 actors, Summer H. Howell secured the iconic lead role. The new trailer gives us a haunting look at how the series expands the world of Chamberlain. It promises a fresh exploration of the cruelty and pressure Carrie faces in today’s modern world, slowly building tension toward that one unforgettable, shattering night at the prom.

Howell is backed by a massive ensemble cast. Samantha Sloyan steps into the chilling role of Margaret White, Amber Midthunder plays Miss Desjardin, and (brace yourselves) Matthew Lillard takes on the role of Principal Grayle. Longtime fans of Flanagan’s work will also spot familiar faces popping up, with Kate Siegel and Rahul Kohli making guest appearances alongside Heather Graham.

When does Carrie premiere?

With Stephen King himself on board as an executive producer, this is shaping up to be the television event of the spooky season. All eight episodes will drop globally in more than 240 countries on Prime Video on Wednesday, October 7.

Whether you are a longtime Stephen King fan or just love a good thriller, it might be time to mentally prepare for the prom all over again.
