If you thought things looked grim at the end of the second season, you might want to brace yourself. Prime Video has just dropped the official trailer for the highly anticipated third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and it is clear that Sauron is not messing around.
The new footage reveals a Middle-earth on the absolute brink. Galadriel sets the tone early in the trailer, stating ominously that everything has led to this exact moment. As Sauron tightens his grip on the world, the focus shifts to the epic event fantasy fans have been waiting for: the forging of the One Ring.
Five Years Later, The Dark Lord is Winning
Season three jumps forward five years after the fall of Eregion, and the landscape is looking incredibly bleak. Sauron’s forces have marched across the map, leaving a trail of conquered lands in their wake. Currently, the only things standing between the Dark Lord and total victory are a few isolated strongholds.
The Dwarves have locked themselves deep inside the mountain halls of Khazad-dûm, though familial tensions are running high. Meanwhile, the Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell are using the power of their Three Rings to stay protected. But time is running out. Deep in Mordor, inside the newly completed tower of Barad-dûr, Sauron is obsessively working to harness a power that will crush his remaining enemies entirely.
Familiar Faces and Rising Tensions
The trailer also gives us a glimpse into the wider chaos spreading across the map. The terrifying Ring-servants, the Nazgûl, are now roaming the land in black armour, hunting for Sauron’s enemies. Over on the island kingdom of Númenor, political factions are pushing the once-great society toward civil war.
There is a small glimmer of hope over in the eastern lands of Rhûn. Gandalf is finally enlisting his full magical abilities, fighting desperately to turn the tide against the impending darkness. The free peoples of Middle-earth (Elves, Dwarves, Men, and Wizards) must figure out how to put aside their differences and unite before Sauron achieves his ultimate goal.
When to Watch Season 3
The release schedule for this season is a little different, giving fans a massive drop right out of the gate. The first four episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will premiere on November 11, 2026. After that, episodes five and six will stream on November 18, leading up to the final two episodes on November 25.
