At about 7:30pm on Thursday night Northern Territory Police were called to a bus stop on Ellengowan Drive Brinkin for reports of two Public Transit Safety Officers being assaulted.
On attendance, Police observed an adult male in the Transit Officers custody handcuffed.
The Transit Officers advised they had been called to the location on information that a passenger had been assaulted by another bus passenger.
As they attempted to remove the offender from the bus he has spat in their face and chest.
The Transit Officers have placed the 31-year-old male under arrest, restrained and handcuffed him.
The offender was arrested by Police and taken to the Palmerston Watch House.
The male will be charged with two counts of Assault a Worker and will face the Darwin Local Court at a later date.
The Transit Officers did particularly well in utilising their newly granted powers to bring an abrupt holt to the drunken offenders conduct.
Northern Territory Police would like to remind all members of the public of your obligations to behave in a civil manner whilst enjoying the use of public facilities.
The abuse and assault of any person inclusive of service providers will not be tolerated.
Spitting is a particularly revolting act that can result in lengthy custodial sentences.
Any offences requiring a Police response can be reported by calling 13144 or in emergency situations Triple Zero or alternatively confidentially to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 for those wishing to provide information relating to a crime.
