A 19-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital after being run over by a ute on Gunn Point beach.
Police say the 19-year-old was laying suspended in a hammock on the back of a Toyota Hilux yesterday around 6:40.
Witnesses claim the car was being driven erratically, fishtailing at speed to make the hammock swing.
It’s reported the hammock then collapsed, trapping the man inside while dragging him under the rear wheels of the ute.
St John’s Ambulance and Police were called to the scene, with the 19-year-old man flown by the Careflight Helicopter to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition with a suspected fractured Femur.
Police Watch Commander Molloy says “it’s incredibly disappointing a competent driver would engage in that manner of driving.”
It’s reported a person presented to Police claiming they were the driver of the car, however witnesses say it was someone else.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
