The first group of Youth Justice Officers for 2026 have officially started their training.
The 20 new recruits started last week at the Holtze Youth Detention Centre, with their training lasting around 8 weeks.
It includes classroom based learning along with practical assessments and scenarios aimed at preparing recruits for real-life situations.
Training will kick off next month in Alice Springs for 10 recruits in serving the Red Centre.
Minister for Corrections Gerard Maley says they’ve seen a strong interest in the roles.
“Youth Justice Officers play a critical role in maintaining safety and order within our youth detention centres while helping young people engage with programs and supports,” Mr Maley says.
“These recruits are stepping into an important role, and this training ensures they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to work in our corrections system.”
