Amid delays to the Territory’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout, residents are being encouraged to get their flu shots.

There was a record number of flu vaccinations recorded in the Northern Territory last year but this year people will need three shots, two being the COVID vaccine.

The NT Government says there needs to be a two week gap between flu and COVID-19 vaccination and is encouraging people to get their flu shot while they are waiting for their COVID vaccine.

While some groups are eligible for a free flu shot, anyone over 10 years old can get the jab from their pharmacist, GP or health clinic.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles says it's important people look after their health.

“While much of the Territory’s focus has been around managing the COVID-19 pandemic, we can’t afford to neglect our general health,” Ms Fyles says.

“Today I received my flu vaccine to remind Territorians to do everything they can to avoid getting sick.”
