Police are investigating after a 17-year-old man was stabbed to death in the remote East Arnhem Land community of Yirrkala.

Officers were called to a serious disturbance at around 2:40pm yesterday after reports of community unrest.

A large group of about 50 to 100 people were involved in the incident.

Three other men, aged 18, 40 and 45, were injured and taken to the local hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds.

A crime scene has been established and additional resources have been sent to Yirrkala to investigate.

In a separate incident in Darwin, a man received multiple stab wounds to his head and neck after a fight at the Mandorah Jetty.

He was flown to the Royal Darwin Hospital and is expected to undergo surgery this morning.

Police arrested a woman at the scene.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault are ongoing.
