Buffalo gores tour guide in Arnhem Land
A safari tour guide has been gored by a buffalo while trying to protect another man under attack in the Northern Territory's remote Arnhem Land.
The 61-year-old man was airlifted 600km from a location northwest of Numbulwar after he was attacked about 10.30am on Sunday, CareFlight says.
"The experienced safari tour guide suffered lacerations and suspected fractures," a spokesperson said.
"It is believed the buffalo charged at another man who had fallen to the ground when the tour guide put himself between the buffalo and the man."
Local clinic staff picked the injured man up and drove for several hours on an unsealed road back to Numbulwar, where he was met by a flight nurse and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
The CareFlight crew praised Numbulwar clinic staff for their efforts in undertaking emergency treatment and bringing the man back to Numbulwar airstrip.
