Union Slam Weather Bureau

Unions have slammed bureau of meteorology management over there attempt to gag staff, after they used forecasts to highlight a five-year pay freeze.

Forecasters have used broadcast and social media to read a statement informing the public of the decision.

But management have tried to shut it down, imposing what they call "additional quality control".

It includes greater checks before broadcasts go to air, and in some cases banning live radio crosses.

The Community and Public Sector Union says the response is heavy-handed and an extraordinary overreaction.
