Fish Aggregating Device
Landing that illusive one metre barra might just be a lit bit easier thanks to new technology deployed in Top End waters.
A fish aggregating device (FAD) has been installed off the coast of Dundee Beach.
Minister For Primary Industries and Resources Ken Vowles explains how it works.
"You drop these devices down, the small fish go there for shade and safety, then the bigger fish rock up and eat those smaller fish, and then the bigger bigger fish eat those small ones. There we have the circle of life. At the end of the day we'll have more opportunities to catch big fish around that FAD," Mr Vowles said.
Four more FADS are currently being developed and will be installed at a later date.
