Human remains near Lee Point Beach have been deemed to belong to a man who’s been missing for more than a decade.
In late September a bushwalker discovered the bones, which were sent for forensic and DNA analysis.
Police have today revealed the remains are those of 43-year-old Coconut Grove man Michael Lui, who disappeared in May 2011.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey says Mr Lui was declared dead by the NT Coroner in 2015.
“This was due to time between going missing and not being located as well as known health concerns he had at the time,” he says.
“He was on medication that he was required to take and if he didn’t continue to take those, his life was at risk.”
Detective Morrissey says the discovery has finally provided some closure to Mr Lui’s family.
“Family have been relieved to have been notified that their family member’s been found and they can put him to rest now.”
He says while Mr Lui’s cause of death is not yet known, there are no suspicious circumstances.
Police have thanked the public for their assistance.
