Alice Springs Man Escapes Custody

UPDATE: Northern Territory Police have arrested a 25-year-old man who escaped police custody in Alice Springs on Friday night. 

The man was located in a vehicle on Lyndavale Drive at 12:35 today. 

He is expected to be charged with Aggravated Assault, Breach a Domestic Violence Order and Escape lawful custody, later today.

 

EARLIER: Northern Territory Police are seeking public assistance to locate a man who escaped police custody in Alice Springs on Friday night.

Around 8:40pm on Friday, officers were called to a domestic disturbance on Lyndavale Drive in which a man is alleged to have assaulted a woman.

Officers were in the process of arresting Shane Williamson, 25 when he broke free and fled on foot towards Engoordina Drive.

Members of the public are urged not to confront Shane Williamson if they see him, but instead contact police on 131 44 immediately.

Shane Williamson is described as an Aboriginal man, 180cm tall with a slim build, longish black hair, a full beard and moustache.
