Around 10,000 properties in northwest Tasmania are without power as a wild storm moves across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe wind warning for the entire Apple Isle on Wednesday morning, with isolated gusts in excess of 130km/h possible.

TasNetworks, the state's power supplier, is investigating outages across the northwest, including at major centre Devonport.

Motorists have been urged to slow down, with police reporting fallen trees across roads at Devonport and Latrobe.
