Chris Hemsworth 39, has announced that he’ll be taking a break from acting after testing positive for having what is known as the APOE4 gene, a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. The APOE4 gene is a variant of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene that increases your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. It does this by affecting how well your brain can clear out amyloid beta, a protein that builds up in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s and is believed to be behind memory decline.

“I’m going home and I’m going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife.”

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive form of dementia that affects the brain cells, leading to memory loss, confusion, difficulty in understanding and performing everyday tasks, personality changes and difficulty in communicating. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia among older people. It can affect as many as one in five people over the age of 65. They say that the recent findings of the APOE4 gene makes Chris 8-10 times more likely of developing the disease.

Hemsworth has stated that this is by no means the end of his acting career, just the start of a no doubt well-earned break. If you had the means to be able to take time off to spend with your most loved ones, your family, wouldn’t you?
