The theory that has been fuelled for years by celebrities, fans and online speculators claims that Stevie Wonder has been faking his blindness for decades. Fuelled by celebrity stories and viral clips, like him catching a falling mic or recognising people before they speak, believers argue he’s too sharp and aware to be fully blind, suggesting it’s all been an elaborate act.
The Rumour That Wouldn’t Die
Anthony Anderson once joked on The Late Show that it was “all an act,” while Shaquille O’Neal swears Stevie greeted him by name in a lift and even pressed the right button. Wonder has kept a sense of humour about it over the years, even teasing Jamie Foxx, “Just because you played a blind man doesn’t make us besties, OK?” often laughing along, but never fully addressing it… Until now.
The Truth
During his Cardiff concert, part of his Love, Light and Song UK tour, the 75-year-old paused mid-show to speak directly to the rumour mill: “You know there’ve been rumours about me seeing and all that? But seriously, the truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind.”
