Instagram has recently released a new update which has been slowly rolling out to users with its purpose to focus on videos and less on photos but has copped a heap of backlash from the public with over 200 thousand people signing a petition called “Make Instagram Instagram again” and has backing from high profile users such as Kylie Jenner and Kim K herself!

The backlash has mainly centred around the fact that Instagram is becoming more and more like TikTok rather than sticking to its heritage of photos but Head of the gram, Adam Mosseri responded on his Twitter account addressing these issues.

His response was typically centred around the fact that the company is being driven by its data which indicates that videos are growing and growing rapidly on the platform which is why the company is deciding to focus its attention on that medium. Adam also admitted that “It’s not yet good, and we’re going to have to get it to a good place if we’re going to ship it to the rest of the Instagram community.” Expanding on that, he went on to say that he, “believes that more and more of Instagram is going to become videos” which indicates that these changes will not be reversed.

The post that kicked off the whole campaign from @illumitati has now had over 2 million likes, 40 thousand comments and countless of shares and reposts.

Will the social media giant cave and listen to the disgruntled users or will it continue to be driven by data?
