Ana de Armas takes centre stage in Ballerina, the latest addition to the ever-expanding John Wick universe. The final trailer introduces Eve Macarro, a highly trained assassin on a mission to avenge her family’s murder. This revenge-fuelled tale weaves itself between the third and fourth chapters of the Wick saga, promising all the stylish violence and high-stakes storytelling fans have come to love.

Eve isn’t just any assassin – she’s a product of the Ruska Roma, the same underworld family that shaped John Wick himself. Armed with everything from cleavers to flamethrowers, de Armas is a ferocious force in this spin-off.

Ballerina doesn’t walk alone. Keanu Reeves returns as the legendary John Wick, joined by Ian McShane’s enigmatic Winston and the late Lance Reddick in one of his final appearances as the stoic concierge Charon. Their inclusion grounds the spin-off within the familiar mythos while giving Eve a path of her own.

Directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) and with action refined through reshoots overseen by Wick veteran Chad Stahelski, the film looks set to deliver a cinematic spectacle when it debuts in Australian cinemas on June 6, 2025.

Years in the Making

Announced as far back as 2017, Ballerina has been a long time coming. The project gained momentum in 2019 but faced delays that pushed its release back by a full year. These setbacks may have worked in its favour, allowing for deeper development and sharper action choreography.

The trailer teases an emotional edge behind the action, positioning Eve not only as a killer but a woman wrestling with loss, legacy, and vengeance.

Expanding the Wick World

Ballerina is just one piece of a growing puzzle. Lionsgate has grand ambitions for the John Wick universe, with projects like John Wick: Chapter 5, the animated prequel about Wick’s “Impossible Task”, and the series Under the High Table all in the pipeline. If Ballerina lands the right punch, it could signal a new era for the franchise—one led by a new, formidable protagonist.
