Big weekend of finals ahead. Four games of nothing but elimination finals to be played and you’re damn right I’ll be watching every single one. It’s the best time of year, that magical week we’re there’s multiple games in both codes of the game where it’s just tense elimination rounds and we’ve got all the details you need below for the epic showdowns coming this week!
NRL
Raiders vs Sharks – Saturday, 20th September – 7:50pm
The minor premiers will face off against the Sharks at GIO Stadium. After an incredibly tough defeat on Sunday night against the Broncos, the Raiders will seek to keep the same momentum they displayed to secure a place in the preliminary finals. The Sharks may have gotten up against the Roosters, but do they have it in them to take down the Raiders at home?
Bulldogs vs Panthers – Sunday 21st September – 4:05pm
After a triumphant victory over the Warriors last week the Panthers will seek to mow down their opposition this week to secure their prelim finals ticket. That though is easier said than done as their semi finals competition is the Bulldogs. These teams have met twice this year already with Penrith winning an 8-6 victory in June, then the Bulldogs winning with a 28-4 domination in late August. Do Penrith have what it takes to get one step closer to the five-peat?
AFL
Cats vs Hawks – Friday, 19th September – 7:40pm
Melbourne this weekend is going to be non-stop as both preliminary finals will be held at the MCG. First up is our premiership favourites, Geelong Cats, against the team that knocked out the minor premiers, Hawthorn. The Hawks sadly have lost their last three clashes against the Cats, but they’ve already made finals history this year with their crows defeat. Perhaps they have it in them to do it again!
Magpies vs Lions – Saturday, 20th September – 5:15pm
Wait, what year is it? It’s not 2023? The Magpies will host the Lions in what is sure to be a clash of the titans this Saturday at the MCG. Having beaten each other once each already this year, it genuinely feels like this game could go either way. With the Lions suffering some key injuries with Hipwood and Neale unable to play, perhaps this will give the pies the edge they need. But the Pies haven’t had consistent form for a few weeks now and whilst it did appear last week like the start of season form Pies has returned, will the week off have killed their momentum?
