Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of cannabis from luggage destined for a remote community on Thursday.
Officers intercepted the checked baggage at a Darwin terminal in Eaton where newly trained Drug Detection Dog Kobi conducted a search and responded to checked bags.
On further examination 30 grams of cannabis was located within the cavity of a cooked chicken resulting in a 58-year-old man receiving a Drug Infringement Notice and the cannabis seized for destruction.
Acting Senior Sergeant Riva Zio said “The seizure displays the value of drug detector dogs working in our communities targeting those who seek to gain personal benefit from the supply of illegal substances.
“This is a particularly good result for our newly trained drug detector dog Kobi who will soon be deployed to Groote Eylandt with her handler where she will continue to do great work.”
