Two tourists are set to face court today after allegedly assaulting a Darwin supermarket worker overnight.

The worker was driving out of the complex carpark after his shift when he was flagged down by two men aged 25 and 40, who police say mistook him for an Uber driver.

Northern Watch commander Sonia Kennon says the older man then allegedly attempted to steal his car before crashing into a metal bike rack.

“When the male refused (to drive them home) they entered the rear of his vehicle locating a bike in the rear seat which they threw out,” she said.

“This caused the owner to get out of his vehicle and he was then assaulted by the 25-year-old male and thrown to the ground.

“The 40-year-old male was subject to a breath analysis providing a reading of 0.171 per cent.

“The male victim suffered a grazed elbow and sustained soft tissue damage.”

Both men are set to face court today.
