NT Police have fired two shots while responding to an alleged armed person and stolen motor vehicle incident in Palmerston.
Officers responded to reports of a man allegedly armed with a blunt weapon attempting to break into houses in Firefly Court in Bakewell at around 11.20am Saturday.
Police say the man stole a set of keys to a silver Toyota Corolla and drove away after officers attempted to confront him.
In an attempt to stop the vehicle, a police officer drew their firearm and allegedly discharged two rounds, however the vehicle continued from the scene.
The Toyota Corolla was found abandoned in bushland off Roystonea Avenue, and police arrested a 44-year-old man nearby.
The man has since been charged with one count each of driving a motor vehicle without consent, going armed in public, damage to property, theft, driving with a prohibited drug in his body and reach of Bail, and four counts of Trespass.
No injuries have been reported and investigations into the incident are continuing, while the use of force has been declared a Serious Custody Incident.
