Police and the dog squad are closing in on Jermaine Shane Austral who is believed to be hiding in Batchelor.
The 27-year-old has been on the run from authorities after allegedly breaking into a Johnston home armed with a gun last Sunday.
Investigations into Mr Austral’s whereabouts saw detectives deployed to Katherine on Wednesday afternoon but their enquiries led them to Batchelor.
The Territory Response Group, Negotiators, The Dog Operations Unit, Serious Crime Squad and Strike Force Trident honed in on a home in the town yesterday morning and set up a cordon.
Although there was no sign of Mr Austral they found his car, a Subaru Forester, and evidence suggesting he fled into bushland.
Patrol Dog Drax searched the area late into the night but couldn’t find him, with police turning to the public again for assistance.
Detective Sergeant Michael Ordelman says it’s believed Mr Austral is on foot in the Batchelor area.
“We would remind the public not to approach Mr Austral and if sighted to immediately contact police on 131 444 and please quote reference 23292486.”
He is described as Aboriginal, about 175 cm tall, of a solid build with “Sandra” tattooed on his right jawline.
