A motorbike rider has been arrested for doing more than 100 kilometers over the speed limit in Coolalinga while under the influence of drugs.

It’s alleged the 32-year-old man was travelling at 192 kilometers an hour in an 80 zone on the Stuart Highway on Saturday.

He was arrested near the Virginia Road intersection and tested positive for cannabis and methamphetamine.

The 32-year-old was taken to the Palmerston Watch House where he was issued with notices to appear in August.

Commander Daniel Bacon says the man’s behaviour was reckless and put everyone on the road at risk.

“It was simply dumb luck that this individual didn’t kill themselves, another motorist or a pedestrian, driving in this manner while intoxicated,” he says.

“Currently the lives lost on Territory roads sits at 7 compared to 31 this time last year.”

“Police are urging all motorists to be aware of their surroundings, slow down and to never drive while under the influence, it’s simply not worth it.”
