Three injured in alleged DV-related hit and run

A 37-year-old man will appear in Darwin Local Court today facing domestic violence related charges.

He was arrested on Friday after an alleged hit and run in Palmerston, which injured three people.

Police say the man struck two women with his vehicle as they were walking through a pedestrian crossing near the Palmerston Bus Exchange.

He then allegedly hit a parked car before fleeing the scene on foot.

Both women, one of which is known to the man, and the driver of the parked car, all suffered minor injuries.

Detectives from the Domestic and Family Violence Section arrested the man shortly after.

He has been charged with four offences including two counts of intent to cause serious harm and one count of driving a vehicle in a dangerous manner.

Acting Senior Sergeant Vanessa Barton says the incident could have been much worse.

“The actions of this driver are completely reprehensible and it was incredibly lucky that these two women were not more seriously injured,” she says.

“Police would like to thank the many witnesses that came forward to provide statements.”
